For many years now, the Swiss-based Argentinian cellist has been lighting up each edition of Gstaad Menuhin Festival & Academy with her presence, turning each of her concerts into exceptional moments. This summer, everything comes together for a new fireworks display: To begin with, two chamber music encounters on 5 and 6 August in Saanen together with violinist Isabelle Faust (on the first evening) and pianist Bertrand Chamayou.
As a trio, they will revisit Mendelssohn and one of the absolute masterpieces of early Romanticism: Schubert's Op. 100 – with its famous Andante, including the haunting rhythm made immortal by Stanley Kubrick and his film “Barry Lyndon”.
The following day, in a duo, Sol Gabetta will put Mendelssohn back in the limelight, as well as Franck (with his famous Violin Sonata in an arrangement by Jules Delsart) and Britten, literally unmissable during this “London”-year.
One of the highlights of this summer in the Bernese Oberland: the performance of the Cello Concerto by Elgar on 14 August in the Gstaad Festival Tent, in company with Jaap van Zweden and the Gstaad Festival Orchestra.
