The presence of Valery Gergiev on the rostrum is always an event. Together with his musicians from the Mariinsky of St. Petersburg, he is preparing to spend not one, but two evenings in the Gstaad Festival Tent on 20 and 21 August, supported by exceptional young soloists: pianist Alexandre Kantorov (performing Profiev’s Piano Concerto No. 2) and violinist Alexandra Conunova (with Sibelius’ Violin Concerto).

The French-born pianist Alexandre Kantorov is a true revelation: The son of violinist and conductor Jean-Jacques Kantorov was the first Frenchman to win the prestigious Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 2019, and the following year he was awarded a Victoire de la musique for his recording of “The Egyptian” by Saint-Saëns, his favourite composer (with Brahms).

Moldovan by birth and living in Switzerland, Alexandra Conunova made her breakthrough in 2012 by winning First Prize at the Joseph Joachim Competition in Hanover, confirmed three years later with a Third Prize at the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. Her just-released recording of Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons” is simply a must!

The two evenings will be accompanied by Mendelssohn’s “Scottish Symphony” and Prokofiev’s “Romeo and Juliet” Orchestral Suite op. 64.
